Free Quest Items
It's always worth watching the advertisements when the billboard guy offers them as there is a good chance of getting a quest item that is important. You can see beforehand what the reward for watching the advertisement will be by simply looking on the guy's billboard.
Inventory
The purpose of the Trading minigame is for you to make money, get a few items that you really need and get rid of items in your inventory that you don't need so you make space to fill it again with more items during your next trip. Don't worry if you lose while play the trading minigame with multiple other players as the rewards for winning will usually be useless items.
Raw Materials
Unless they are really taking up space and you cannot use them in your next run you should never sell raw materials. Raw materials can be crafted into something that can be sold which will invariably bring you a lot more money than the base ingredients.
Trading Minigame Trick
Start a trading minigame when you are alone in camp and trade one item. Since you are the only person there you will always win the free item. More often than not the items you win will be useless but every so often you will get a good quest item. If you can't start the trading minigame you simply have to swipe up to have your character get up and head towards the Trail, then tap the 'Go back to Campsite' button in the lower left corner of the screen.
